STARKVILLE — Mississippi State track and field athlete Zachary Taylor was arrested on multiple counts of burglary Tuesday, according to an Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office press release.
The charges stem from a joint investigation by the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department, Starkville Police Department, and the York County South Carolina Sheriff’s Department into recent thefts of fishing equipment within their respective jurisdictions.
Taylor, 22, a native of Rock Hill, South Carolina, is being held in the Oktibbeha County Jail on $15,000 bond. He is expected to be extradited to South Carolina upon his release.
A MSU track and field spokesperson said MSU track and field coach Steve Dudley had no comment.
Taylor placed second in the decathlon with a personal-best 7,466 points at the 2015 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by MSU. He competed in the NCAA Championships, where he finished 13th with 7,367 points. He earned second team All-America honors in the decathlon.
