Mississippi State ace pitcher Tomas Valincius added another accolade to his growing list on Monday as the first-year Bulldog took home the Ferris Trophy.
At a ceremony held at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in Jackson, the sophomore from Lockport, Ill., was selected for the award, which annually honors the best collegiate baseball player in Mississippi, over teammate Ace Reese, Ole Miss’ Cade Townsend and Judd Utermark and Southern Miss’ Grayden Harris.
As a left-handed hurler, Valincius earned a 9-2 record on the mound through 14 starts for the Bulldogs with a 3.04 ERA. He ended the regular season with the second-most strikeouts in the SEC (112) with only 17 walks, and topped the conference in strikeouts in league play (86). Valincius is the ninth Bulldog to win the Ferris Trophy, which is the most out of any program. Other former State honorees are Thomas Berkery (2006), Ed Easley (2007), Chris Stratton (2012), Hunter Renfroe (2013), Jake Mangum (2016, 2019), Brent Rooker (2017), Tanner Allen (2021) and Dakota Jordan (2024).
