Big news for Big Ed.
East Columbus has a new dining option that has officially opened.
Edward and Jennifer Bishop opened Big Ed’s Fish House, 525 Alabama St., on Thursday.
Initially, the Bishops had different plans for the space.
“Originally, we were looking at the location to maybe turn it into a pool hall,” Edward said, “But with the layout and East Columbus needing more restaurants, we decided to go with a restaurant.”
Following a successful soft opening last week, Bishop said they are working out the tweaks and are ready to serve customers.
Their menu has a ton of great options, including cheese bites, fried mushrooms, onion rings, baked potatoes, catfish (of course), chicken tenders, ribeye, steak, cheeseburgers, shrimp, oysters, salad bar and more.
Big Ed’s Fish House is open 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays.
Big things are on the horizon for treasure hunters in the Golden Triangle. Parker’s Antique Mall recently announced plans to transform the former Walmart building at 124 Winchester Drive in West Point into a 50,000 square-foot antique warehouse.
While the owners plan to share more details soon, they are currently gauging interest from potential partners. According to the company’s Facebook page, they are actively “gathering interest” from local vendors.
“If you’re interested in renting a booth in a new destination for antiques and vintage treasures, we’d love to hear from you,” a social media post reads. “…There is absolutely no obligation or commitment. This is simply an interest survey to help us build something amazing for both vendors and shoppers.”
For those wanting to find a new place for a vendor booth, head to Parker’s Antiques’ Facebook page to fill out the form.
This new addition joins a booming lineup of vendor malls popping up across the Golden Triangle, including Southern Exchange, which opened last year in Columbus, Triangle Trading Post in November in Starkville and the Starkville Warehouse Market in March.
Personally? I say keep ’em coming. You never know what hidden gems you’ll find, the inventory keeps changing, and there are so many local vendors always looking for the perfect spot to showcase their antiques, art and crafts.
Also on Winchester Drive, a local business celebrated its ribbon-cutting.
Owner Celester Davis opened C&E Monuments at 6758 Winchester Drive.
The new company specializes in custom monuments, including memorials, headstones, grave markers and more.
C&E Monuments is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. You can reach out to (662) 391-4251 for more information.
