STARKVILLE – Authorities have identified the man allegedly killed by his roommate Tuesday in their residence.
In a text to The Dispatch on Wednesday, Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt identified the victim as 24-year-old Daniel Carlos Gomez.
Gomez’s roommate Jamarcus Smith, 31, of Starkville, is charged with murder in connection to his death, according to a Starkville Police Department press release.
Officers responded at about 7:23 a.m. Tuesday to The Social Block on 110 Lincoln Green following a 911 call.
At the scene they found both roommates in their shared residence. Hunt said Gomez was initially taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Oktibbeha County before being transferred to University Medical Center in Jackson, where he died.
The death has been ruled a homicide, and the body is being held at the state crime lab awaiting an autopsy, Hunt said.
Smith is being held at Oktibbeha County Jail.
