Mississippi State midfielder Hannah Johnson was named to Top Drawer Soccer’s honorable mention team of the week as she scored two goals in the Bulldogs’ 3-3 draw with Tennessee on Sept. 29.
Johnson’s brace tied her for the team lead with three goals on the season and represented the first multi-goal game of her collegiate career. Her first goal of the night came in the 29th minute to cap a beautiful sequence, when she one-timed a cross in from Zoe Main past Volunteers goalkeeper Abigail Reisz.
In the 54th minute, she struck again as Haley McWhirter lifted a ball into the 18-yard box straight to Johnson’s forehead. Johnson headed it perfectly into the corner of the net.
Kentucky forward Jordyn Rhodes was the only other Southeastern Conference player on Top Drawer Soccer’s list. MSU is back in action Sunday at home against rival Ole Miss as the Bulldogs and Rebels compete for the Magnolia Cup.
