NORMAN, OK — Mississippi State women’s soccer played the role of party crashers on Thursday night, winning 2-0 at Oklahoma in the school’s first-ever Southeastern Conference game. The No. 24 ranked Bulldogs outshot the Sooners 19-10 in Norman and showed their defensive prowess by holding the hosts to just five attempts on target.
Mississippi State currently has the third-ranked goals-against average in Division I women’s soccer, allowing .250 goals against through eight games. The only goals conceded came in the 2-1 loss at 13th-ranked Wake Forest, a team that beat No. 1 Stanford on Thursday.
The Bulldogs also picked up where they left off in scoring, putting two goals past the Sooners thanks to strikes from Zoe Main and Price Loposer.
Main’s goal came 23 minutes into the match after Hannah Johnson was able to control a long ball forward and hold off a defender. She turned and found Main charging toward the goal with a low pass, which Main fired first time into the net.
Loposer added a stunning goal in the second half to double MSU’s lead, controlling a lofted ball forward and holding off a defender to fire a volley into the top right corner of the goal.
The Bulldogs return to Starkville for their next SEC match against No. 11 Texas at 6:30 p.m. Sunday night. All MSU soccer games are open to the public and admission is free.
