STARKVILLE — Louisiana graduate transfer Jalen Johnson has signed to play with the Mississippi State men’s basketball team, the university announced Monday evening.
Stadium’s Jeff Goodman was the first to report Johnson’s transfer to Mississippi State.
Johnson, a 6-foot-7 forward, scored 15.5 points and grabbed 6.6 rebounds per game in his junior season with the Ragin’ Cajuns. In three combined seasons between Louisiana and Saint Louis, Johnson has amassed 1,061 points and 495 rebounds in 99 career games (77 starts). He is expected to move into a starting role with the Bulldogs immediately and will have one final season of eligibility.
“I’m incredibly excited about Jalen joining our program and the Bulldog family,” MSU coach Ben Howland said in a news release. “He comes to us with a tremendous amount of experience already playing three seasons of college basketball. Jalen is an outstanding shooter and scorer, and he rebounds extremely well for his size. I’m really impressed with his maturation and his intelligence. He is focused on having a great senior season as he pursues his graduate degree at Mississippi State.”
With four incoming freshmen and one graduate transfer signed already in the 2020 class, MSU is expected to continue to seek graduate transfers to fill out its roster for the 2020-2021 season. The Bulldogs lost nine players from a season ago. Columbus native Robert Woodard II has until June 3 to decide whether he wants to stay in the NBA Draft or return to school.
