Aaron Nixon was just a freshman when he earned the win on the mound for Texas against Mississippi State in bracket play of the 2021 College World Series.
A little over a year later, Nixon is the Bulldogs’ newest reliever.
The Longhorns pitcher announced his commitment to MSU on Friday, adding to a Bulldogs bullpen that struggled mightily due to depth and injury in 2022.
And Nixon, too, is coming off a down year.
The McAllen, Texas, native had a 5.04 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 2022. He struck out 38 hitters but walked 25 in 30 1/3 innings.
As a freshman, Nixon pitched to a 2.12 ERA with nine saves in 34 innings as a freshman, striking out 35 hitters in 34 innings. The right-hander was named a freshman all-American.
He becomes the fifth Division I transfer into the Mississippi State program this offseason, and all five were sophomores or younger in 2022. Nixon joins Memphis pitcher Landon Gartman, Samford outfielder Colton Ledbetter, Ball State pitcher Nate Dohm and New Orleans second baseman Amani Larry.
