CLINTON — The Mississippi High School Activities Association announced its decision to return the MHSAA Football State Championships to Hattiesburg on Wednesday. The organization’s board voted on Tuesday to partner with Southern Miss to once again host the championship games for all classifications at “The Rock.”

The 2024 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Gridiron Classic, as it is officially called, will take place December 5-7.
“We appreciate the time and conversations with all the potential host sites through this process,” MHSAA Executive Director Rickey Neaves said in a release on Wednesday. “We have no doubt that Southern Miss and the city of Hattiesburg will once again do a tremendous job hosting and creating exciting, memorable experiences for our schools, students, coaches, families, and communities.”
The festivities will begin on Thursday with Class 3A and 7A championship games, followed by 1A and 5A on Friday and 2A, 4A and 6A on Saturday.
The area saw three of its teams participate in the championship games in Oxford last year, with Starkville and Noxubee County finishing as finalists in 7A and 3A respectively while West Point won the 5A title in its last season under legendary head coach Chris Chambless.
