Friday night high school football games in Mississippi will return to a 7 p.m. kickoff, the Mississippi High School Activities Association announced on Monday.
MHSAA executive director Rickey Neaves said during a five-minute social media video that there were no discernable differences found between starting games at 7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. to begin the season.
Last season, the MHSAA mandated that games be pushed back 30 minutes through the first two months or so of the season due to fears of increased heat-related incidents from warmer temperatures.
Games returned back to the traditional 7 p.m. time in October.
According to the updated MHSAA 2023-24 sports calendar, the 2023 football season begins on August 24, with first practices taking place on July 31, and scrimmages on August 18.
