Memphis shot nearly 58% from the field in the second half Saturday against No. 16 Ole Miss, and the Tigers defeated the Rebels 87-70 at the FedExForum in Memphis.
The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for Ole Miss (11-2).
Tigers guard Colby Rogers scored a game-high 28 points and hit 6 of 9 from 3-point range. Four Memphis players finished with at least 10 points. Ole Miss senior guards Sean Pedulla and Jaylen Murray led the Rebels with 13 points and 12 points, respectively.
Memphis (10-3) hit its first three shots of the game and jumped out to a 17-6 lead, as the Rebels missed nine of their first 12 from the field. The Tigers led by as many as 13 in the first half, but Ole Miss cut the deficit down to four with just under three minutes left in the period by way of a 3-pointer from senior guard Davon Barnes. Four straight free throws from senior forward Mikeal Brown-Jones to end the half brought the Rebels within two at halftime.
Memphis extended its lead back to double digits less than four minutes into the second. The Tigers hit 8 of 12 from the field to start the half and led by 16 with just under 12 minutes to play. Memphis shot 21 free throws in the second half and hit 4 of 9 from 3-point range in the period. The Rebels were outrebounded 45-34 overall.
Ole Miss starts SEC play next Saturday at home against Georgia at 11 a.m. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network.
