STARKVILLE — Mississippi State volleyball has a familiar face returning to the program as former Bulldogs setter Margaret Dean was named director of volleyball operations on Thursday.
“It is always so special when alumni want to come back and be part of the program they played in,” head coach Julie Darty Dennis said in Thursday’s press release. “I am so excited and thrilled to announce Margaret Dean as our director of volleyball operations.
Dean was a key part of MSU’s lone NCAA tournament appearance in program history in 2021, featuring as a setter during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
She recorded 1,015 assists and 385 digs across 51 matches for the Bulldogs after a successful three-year career at Stephen F. Austin.
In the 2021 season alone, Dean finished with 683 assists and 236 digs, playing in all 31 matches for MSU.
Her return to Starkville comes at an important time as Mississippi State has gone 28-28 over the past two seasons, missing out on the NCAA tournament twice as the Bulldogs have struggled to compete in a tough Southeastern Conference.
“Margaret made a huge impact on our program in two short seasons, and I know she will do the same in this new role,” Dennis said. “She is driven, organized, focused and fiery and will help us give our student-athletes an incredible experience here in StarkVegas.”
