STARKVILLE — Mississippi State softball is sending another former player to the professional ranks as the program announced Monday that outfielder Chloe Malau’ulu is headed to Women’s Professional Fastpitch.
Malau’ulu signed a contract with the Oklahoma City Spark, an expansion team in the second season of WPF.
She is the 23rd player in program history to play professionally and the 11th player under current head coach Samantha Ricketts.
“It means a lot,” Malau’ulu said in Monday’s press release. “I feel like I have a lot of unfinished business from this year, so to have this opportunity to keep playing is really special. I want to use it to my advantage. I know that we’ve been trying to grow the game, so I’m excited to be a part of that. The WPF is still fairly new, and being a part of a beginning of something is pretty cool.”
In five seasons with the Bulldogs, Malau’ulu hit .304/.398/.491 in 225 games with 189 hits, 134 runs scored, 21 home runs, 95 RBIs and 37 doubles.
Her 2023 season was among her best, as she hit .283 with a .900 OPS, eight home runs, 33 RBIs, eight doubles, four triples and 30 runs scored.
Malau’ulu finished her Mississippi State career with 18 outfield assists, the second-most in program history. She was also an All-SEC selection in 2022 and a two-time All-South Region selection.
“I’m so thrilled for Chloe to have the opportunity to continue playing in the WPF with the OKC Spark,” Ricketts said in Monday’s press release. “This opportunity is thanks to years of hard work by Chloe. She is an exceptional teammate, leader and softball player, and I know she will represent Mississippi State well at the professional level.”
Oklahoma City begins its inaugural season June 15.
