Fresh off sweeping four games to win the Dizzy Dean Baseball 12U South championship, the Lowndes County All-Stars rolled through another weekend undefeated to capture the Grand Slam Sports state tournament in Winona.
Bennon Adams was the winning pitcher in the championship game of the 10-team event, a 13-2 rout of Kosciusko on Sunday at Winona Rec Park. Earlier Sunday, J. Wamble was on the mound as Lowndes County cruised past Eupora 12-2.
In pool play, Lowndes County posted wins of 16-6 over Booneville and 9-2 over Louisville. They faced Booneville again in the first round of bracket play, posting a 10-2 romp in their first game on Sunday.
Wamble was the hitting star of the weekend for Lowndes County, belting three home runs during the tournament. Tyler Long also homered for Lowndes County, which is 9-0 during the postseason.
The Lowndes County All-Stars are Bennon Adams, Tesher Frost, Jackson Frye, Smith Graham, Chase Hall, Cody Hollis, Tyler Long, Carter Pack and J. Wamble. The team is coached by James Wamble, assisted by Jason Hollis and Brian Adams.
Next up for Lowndes County is the Dizzy Dean Baseball World Series, which is scheduled for July 16-20 at Snowden Grove Park in Southaven.
