It’s more than just a football game when Mississippi State (4-3, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) plays host to No. 12 Kentucky (6-1, 4-1 SEC) at 6 p.m. Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium.
The contest is the Bulldogs’ homecoming game, and additionally, the MSU baseball team will receive its 2021 College World Series championship rings after the first quarter.
But there’s still 60 minutes to be played on the gridiron as the Dawgs battle the Wildcats, who have not won in Starkville since 2008.

8:14 p.m. — Field goal, Mississippi State. Penalties blow up a potential touchdown drive, but Brandon Ruiz hits a 27-yard kick. MSU 17, Kentucky 10, 6:34 left in the third quarter.
7:40 p.m. — Halftime: Mississippi State 14, Kentucky 10. An interception by Jalen Green at the 1-yard line with 9 seconds left keeps the Bulldogs in the lead.

6:44 p.m. — End of the first quarter: Kentucky 7, Mississippi State 0. The Bulldogs’ baseball team was honored between quarters for its national championship victory.
6:30 p.m. — Special teams coordinator Matt Brock admitted this week kicker Brandon Ruiz isn’t 100 percent. Ruiz misses a field goal from 47 yards, and MSU remains scoreless.
6:22 p.m. — Touchdown, Kentucky. Josh Ali with a 74-yard punt return for a score. Kentucky 7, Mississippi State 0, 7:14 left in the first quarter.
6:15 p.m. — Cornerback Martin Emerson is ejected for targeting. The Bulldogs lose their best defender less than four minutes into the game.
6:08 p.m. — Mississippi State won the toss and deferred. The Bulldogs kick off to start the game.
5:52 p.m. — Mississippi State’s starters are announced. Tucker Day earns the honor at punter; Kwatrivous “Dollar Bill” Johnson was announced as the starter at right guard but is not taking first-team reps, according to The Clarion Ledger. Cole Smith was in Johnson’s place.
