AUBURN, Ala. — It’s been a successful tournament for Mississippi State sophomore Petar Jovanovic at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southern Regional Championships at Auburn this week.
Currently ranked No. 68 nationally in men’s singles, Jovanovic reached the final of the singles draw, defeating Jacksonville State’s Ivan Marrero Curbelo in straight sets in the quarterfinals, and Alabama’s Filip Planinsek in three sets in the semis.
He lost to Alabama’s Enzo Aguiard in the final in three sets, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, but still qualified to represent Mississippi State at ITA Fall Nationals in San Diego in early November.
“I was very impressed with the way our team competed this week,” said head coach Matt Roberts in Tuesday’s press release. “Everyone was hungry to work and build their resilience in the tough moments. We are excited to finish out our fall schedule and look forward to the start of spring.”
