COLUMBUS — Heritage Academy senior Jack Ketchum announced on social media his verbal commitment to the University of Alabama for baseball on Saturday afternoon.
Ketchum, a three-sport athlete with the Patriots, decided to drop football for his senior season as his focus has turned almost solely to baseball.
“I am very excited to announce that I will be committing to The University of Alabama,” Ketchum said on social media on Saturday. “I would like to thank God, and all of my family and coaches who have helped me along the way. Roll Tide.”
The 6-2 right-hander has primarily pitched and played third base during his career with the Patriots, coming off a junior year that saw him hit .490 in 29 games played with seven home runs, 41 RBIs, 27 runs scored and 11 doubles.
In his high school career, Ketchum has hit. 403 in 81 games played with 87 hits, 49 runs scored, 19 doubles and 70 RBIs.
On the mound, he’s struck out 142 batters in 98 innings pitched over three seasons, a career 9-3 record with a 3.79 ERA.
Ketchum chose the Crimson Tide over most notably Mississippi State, deciding to head an hour east to be part of a program now led by former Maryland head coach Rob Vaughn.
