COLUMBUS — Heritage Academy on Thursday announced the additions of two coaches to its athletic department staff in Mark Alexander and Jonathan Banks.
Alexander joins as the new assistant girls and boys basketball coach, as well as the new director for Heritage Sports Network.
A 1991 graduate of Mississippi State, Alexander has been coaching for the past 16 years, with recent stops at Starkville Academy, Madison-Ridgeland Academy and most recently at Hartfield Academy.
Previous to his coaching career, he worked in sports journalism for more than a decade.
Banks comes over to Columbus from New Hope, where he recently served as an assistant football coach and head boys track coach.
He will reprise both roles with the Patriots, as well as being an assistant coach for junior varsity football.
Banks was a former coach and player at Mississippi State, a second round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and a five-year NFL veteran.
