PHILADELPHIA — West Point did what they do best.
Behind the always tough rushing attack of Cam Randle and Shamane Clark along with a stout defense the Green Wave got past Neshoba Central 21-7 at Rocket Field on Friday night for their second straight win.
“Two really good teams and it was a big test for us because it was a strength-on-strength type game,” said West Point coach Brett Morgan. “Really proud of our team. It was a hard-fought win and it wasn’t perfect.”
After Quanterrious Dawson recovered a fumble on the Neshoba Central 1-yard line, Clark plowed into the end zone from a yard out to give West Point a 7-0 lead with 10:23 left in the second quarter.
The score stayed the same until 8:47 left in the fourth quarter as Randle dove into the end zone 3 yards out to extend the Green Wave’s lead to 14-0.
Clark’s 13-yard touchdown run with 3:27 remaining in the game gave West Point a 21-0 lead.
Clark finished the night with 103 yards rushing on 20 carries and two touchdowns to lead the Green Wave (2-2).
“We knew going into the game they were going to have a big front, so we knew we had just keep running the rock and getting them tired,” Clark said. “Our schedule ain’t easy, so we got to work for what we’re trying to achieve. Me and Cam have a good one-two punch and no one can stop us.”
Randall added 86 yards rushing on 20 carries with a score for West Point. The Green Wave had 212 yards total rushing on the night. The West Point defense only allowed 116 yards of total offense.
“Great defense and overcoming a lot to find a win. We’re still not clicking on all cylinders on offense, but we’re getting better,” Morgan said. “Their run defense is really good and is built to defend a team like us and a really hard front to run against.”
Williams had 40 yards passing and 35 yards rushing to lead Neshoba Central (1-3).
