Six area basketball players and one coach will participate in all-star games this spring.
This week, the Mississippi Association of Coaches released this year’s Mississippi/Alabama boys and girls all-star basketball teams and North/South all-star basketball teams. All games will be played in March at Mississippi College in Clinton.
Noxubee County had the most selections of the bunch, with three players and one coach representing the Class 1A/2A/3A North team.
Head coach Micheal Johnson as well as Krystianna Clark, Jamaya Dancy and Na’Kaiyla “Tootie” Lockett were chosen from the Tigers.
Clark has held down the fort in the middle for Noxubee County, while guards Dancy and Lockett are both averaging double figures offensively this season. Lockett surpassed 1,000 career points earlier this season.
Starkville had two representatives in the MS/AL games: boys standout Makhi Myles and girls standout Je’Niecia Hill.
Myles recently signed his National Letter of Intent to play for Wichita State and has been an integral part of this season’s Yellow Jackets team, while Hill has shined on both sides of the floor for the girls team as one of the leading scorers for the Jackets.
Rounding out the selections is New Hope’s Issace Grady, an invaluable part of the Trojans. Grady hit a game-winner on Dec. 20 against Pontotoc, sparking New Hope’s current six-game winning streak. He’ll play for the Class 4A/5A/6A North team.
The Mississippi/Alabama All-Star games are scheduled for March 11, with the girls tipping off at noon and the boys at 2 p.m.
The North/South All-Star games are scheduled for March 18. The Tigers’ representatives will play in the 1A/2A/3A girls game at noon, with Grady in the 4A/5A/6A boys game at 6 p.m.
