Four members of MUW’s track and field teams were named to the 2026 NCAA Division III All-South Region Team as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association this week.
Representing The W’s men’s track team on the All-South Region Team are Noel Kellum of Puckett and Malachi Morgan of Decatur, Al. Arie’Onna McCollum of Winfield, Al. and Ariella Jones of Winona each made the team from the Owls’ women’s track squad.
“I’m very proud of this young group of athletes,” head coach Dedrick Burnett said. “Three of the four athletes are just freshmen or sophomores. These honors say a lot about our program as we continue to build it up in the right direction. In the future, we hope to get more athletes to make this list and possibly qualify for the national championship meet.”
Kellum ran the decathlon for the Owls and finished in seventh-place in the region with 4,781 points. Morgan gained recognition for his high jump and tied for the SLIAC’s third-best leap with a hop of 2.05 meters. McCollum, a competitor in javelin, let loose a throw of 35.96 meters for the eighth-best hurl in the conference, and Jones placed fifth in women’s long jump, covering a distance of 5.66 meters. Each of these feats also set program records for MUW.
The top-8 individuals in each event from each region’s year-end list earned USTFCCCA All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region’s top-8 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, Northeast, South, and West – match those used during the cross country season.
