STARKVILLE — Former Mississippi State head coach Joe Moorhead is reportedly on the move.
Brett McMurphy of Stadium reported Tuesday night that Moorhead is set to become the new offensive coordinator at Oregon.
Following a two-year run at MSU in which he compiled a 14-12 record, the former Penn State offensive coordinator was fired Jan. 3 after MSU’s 38-28 Music City Bowl loss to Louisville.
Moorhead’s tenure in Starkville was also marred by off-the-field issues. One week before MSU’s season opener against Louisiana, an NCAA investigation discovered 10 MSU football players paid a part-time athletic department tutor in exchange for completing coursework. All 10 players were to be docked eight games this season.
More recently, junior linebacker Willie Gay Jr. and freshman quarterback Garrett Shrader were involved in a fight during bowl practices that left the latter unable to play in the Music City Bowl.
A move to Eugene would mark Moorhead’s first time working in the Pac-12.
Before coming to MSU, Moorhead guided the Penn State offense to the nation’s 19th-best unit in 2017.
