STARKVILLE — Mississippi State men’s golf is bolstering its roster for next season by adding a Division II national champion to the mix.
The program announced on Friday that Nova Southeastern rising junior Josep Serra is transferring to Starkville come next season.
Serra helped the Sharks’ win their third national championship in program history this past season, finishing 14th individually while winning two matches in bracket play.
“We are thrilled to add Josep to our Mississippi State golf family,” head coach Dusty Smith said in Friday’s press release. “He is a very talented player who will be a huge asset to our program. He is a team-first type of player and will be a tremendous addition to our team culture.”
Serra averaged 72.25 strokes as a sophomore for Nova Southeastern, recording 16 rounds in the 60s in the process. As a freshman, he earned a number of honors, including the 2022 NCAA Division II Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman, PING Honorable Mention All-American and All-Region selections and the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year.
Mississippi State men’s golf is coming off an appearance in the NCAA team national championships in Scottsdale, Arizona, finishing tied 25th among 30 qualifying teams.
