HATTIESBURG — Columbus native and former Falcon Denijay Harris continued his impressive senior year at Southern Miss with another big performance in a win over Sun Belt opponent UL Monroe on Thursday. He scored 19 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in an 84-67 victory at Reed Green Coliseum, which saw the Golden Eagles improve to 7-9 on the season, 2-2 in conference play.
The visiting Warhawks led 31-21 midway through the first half of action before the Golden Eagles really got going, with Harris scoring the final five points of the half to take a 40-39 lead going into the break. The hosts then started the second half with a 12-2 run, winning the second frame 44-25 to secure a second conference win and build on an impressive home record. Over the last three seasons they are 33-4 at the Coliseum.
This was the seventh double-double of the season for Harris, who is also averaging a double-double with 16.5 points and 10.7 boards through 15 games. He struggled with flu symptoms against James Madison last week, posting a season-low five points, but still managed to grab eight rebounds in that game.
The Golden Eagles are back in action at home on Saturday, facing off with Texas State at 2 p.m.
