Behind a career-high tying 33 points and 12 rebounds from senior guard/forward Cotie McMahon, No. 18 Ole Miss defeated Missouri 82-61 Thursday night at Mizzou Arena. The Rebels (17-4, 4-2 SEC) made their final 11 shots in the fourth quarter.
Missouri (13-9, 1-6) entered the game shooting 38% from 3-point range – which ranks eighth nationally – but was held to just 4 of 20 from deep in the loss. McMahon scored 24 of her points in the second half. Ole Miss outrebounded the Tigers 41-31.
The Rebels missed all nine shots from 3-point range in the first half and turned the ball over three times in the game’s first 5 minutes and 30 seconds. Despite shooting just 28% from the field in the first quarter, the Rebels led 13-12 heading into the second after holding Missouri without a field goal for the final 2:36.
The teams were tied at 21-21 with 4:15 to play in the second quarter, but the Rebels finished the half on an 8-2 run and led by six at halftime. Ole Miss held Missouri without a field goal for the last 4:27 of the second. The Rebels, meanwhile, made their last four shots of the period.
The Tigers scored the first six points of the third quarter and tied the game at 29-29. Ole Miss proceeded to score six straight points, part of a 20-10 run that resulted in a 10-point lead heading into the fourth.
The Rebels made 11 of 12 shots from the floor in the fourth quarter while Missouri missed eight of its last 10 shots from the field. Sophomore guard Sira Thienou finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for Ole Miss. Senior forward Latasha Lattimore scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
Ole Miss hosts No. 17 Tennessee Monday at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
