OXFORD – The Cleveland Guardians will promote former Ole Miss ace Doug Nikhazy to the major league roster prior to this weekend’s series against the Red Sox, according to CBS Sports. He will work out of the bullpen, per the report. It will mark the first time Nikhazy has been on the active MLB roster.

Nikhazy, a lefty from Florida, was drafted by the Guardians in the second round (58th overall) in the 2021 MLB Draft following his storied career with the Rebels. In three seasons at Ole Miss, Nikhazy compiled a 24-6 record with a 2.81 ERA and 259 strikeouts. His final season at Ole Miss was his best, as Nikhazy went 12-2 (15 starts) with a 2.45 ERA, 142 strikeouts and 31 walks. He was named first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC in 2021.
Nikhazy spent last season in AA and AAA and compiled a 7-4 record with a 2.98 ERA. He is 1-0 at the AAA-affiliate Columbus Clippers this season with a 3.44 ERA in four starts.
