Sixteen Bulldog athletes are set to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week.
Competition starts today with the men, with the top performers advancing to Friday. The women start on Thursday, with the finalists competing on Saturday. MSU has 13 men and three women competing in the championships in Eugene, Ore.
Sophomore Nelly Jemeli is one of two women making her second appearance in the championship and is competing in the 300m steeplechase. Sophomore Marie Rougetet is making a return to the championships in the hammer throw. Senior Manie Mevo is making her championship debut in the triple jump.
Ten of the 13 men are competing in their first outdoor championships. State has five throwers in the championships: Kevin Grubbs, Juha Nahri, Kaden Cartwright and Tuomas Närhi. Harry Ross-Hughes and Sam Navarro will compete in the 800m.
Khalil Antoine is competing in the triple and high jumps. State’s team in the 4×100 is Nicholas Fakorede, Kibren Moore, Gabriel Scott and Sherman Hawkins Jr. Hawkins Jr. and Ross-Hughes will compete alongside Keayari Lee and Malachi Burton in the 4×400.
