Caledonia has hired its next football coach.
Michael Campbell, a former head coach at Smithville and offensive coordinator at Tupelo with 22 years of experience on the sidelines, is slated as the next man in charge of the Cavaliers’ football program, the school announced Thursday. Campbell is replacing Michael Kelly, who stepped down from his post in January to become the athletic director and head football coach at Noxapater Attendance Center.
Campbell, a Mississippi State graduate, also coached at Itawamba Agricultural and will join the Cavs from Petal, where he served as the team’s offensive coordinator.
“I am truly honored and excited for the opportunity to lead the football program at Caledonia,” Campbell said in a district release. “I look forward to going to work and building a program our players, school and community can be proud of.”
Last season, Petal finished its campaign 8-5 with a 45-10 loss to eventual Class 7A state champion Gulfport in the second round of the playoffs. The Panthers averaged 25 points per game.
