Yemiyah Morris, a 6-foot-6 center, became the sixth player of the Mississippi State’s women’s basketball recruiting class over the weekend.
A native of Las Vegas, she is a junior college transfer from Cochise Community College in Arizona. She ranked third in the nation in shooting percentage this past season, making 52.2% of her shots.
She joins a recruiting class that includes McDonald’s All-American Rickea Jackson, a 6-foot-3 wing player whose final options also included South Carolina. Five players were signed by the Bulldogs in November. Head coach Vic Schaefer’s class has been ranked No. 6 in the nation by ESPN.
Morris averaged 13.9 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this past season as a sophomore, ranking fourth in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference in offensive rebounds and blocks. The Apaches made the national championship tournament in both her seasons and won the Region I title with a 28-4 record this year.
Morris was named First Team All-Region 1 and First Team All-ACCAC.
