Mississippi State sophomore outfielder Dakota Jordan was named a finalist for the 2024 Ferriss Trophy, presented annually to the best college baseball player in Mississippi, on Tuesday.
Jordan, who was a member of the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team last year, has been even better this season. Through 48 games, he is slashing .367/.489/.712 with 16 home runs and 56 runs batted in. He homered in five straight games from March 5-12 and is a projected first-round pick in this year’s Major League Baseball Draft.
The Ferriss Trophy is named for the late former Delta State coach and Boston Red Sox pitcher Dave “Boo” Ferriss and will be presented at a luncheon at the Golden Moon Casino at Pearl River Resort on May 20.
Seven Bulldogs have won the trophy since it was first presented in 2004, more than any other school in the state, with Jake Mangum winning it twice in 2016 and 2019. Other MSU winners are Tanner Allen (2021), Brent Rooker (2017), Hunter Renfroe (2013), Chris Stratton (2012), Ed Easley (2007) and Thomas Berkery (2006).
Other finalists this year include Ole Miss outfielder Ethan Lege, Southern Miss pitcher/outfielder Dalton McIntyre, Belhaven pitcher Brett Sanchez and William Carey outfielder RJ Stinson.
