The Starkville High School football team held on to the No. 4 position while West Point moved up a spot to No. 6 in the AP Mississippi Prep Football Top 10 Poll released Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets (6-0) defeated Clinton 28-21 last week, their third consecutive come-from-behind victory. Starkville is ranked No. 3 in Class 6A, flip-flopping with Ocean Springs (5-0) after the Greyhounds crushed then-No. 8 D’Iberville 42-14.
The Green Wave moved past West Jones (4-1) in both the statewide Top 10 and in the Class 5A poll after their 31-0 win over New Hope. West Jones dropped a notch despite a 41-0 win over Natchez.
While there was a lot of movement in the Class 3A rankings, Noxubee County remained at No. 5 after the Tigers rebounded from a loss to Louisville, the No. 1 team in Class 4A and No. 9 overall, with a resounding 52-0 win over Hatley.
Among private schools, Heritage Academy slipped past Jackson Academy into the No. 3 spot after defeating Wayne Academy 42-14 while the Raiders lost 30-9 to No. 1 Greenville Christian.
Greenville Christian (7-1) was a unanimous choice at No. 1 in the Top 10 and among private schools. Scott Central (8-0) in Class 2A also received every first-place vote.
