Mississippi State freshman forward Alden Applewhite has entered the NCAA transfer portal, he announced Sunday.
“I would like to thank Mississippi State for all the experiences throughout my freshman year,” Applewhite wrote on Instagram. “With prayers and long discussions with my family I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal and explore all opportunities for my basketball career.”
Applewhite, a three-star recruit from Memphis, Tennessee, played in two games for the Bulldogs last season. He scored two points and grabbed four rebounds in total.
Applewhite played at Lausanne and Houston high schools in the Memphis area before transferring to Compass Prep in Arizona for his senior season.
He is the fifth Mississippi State scholarship player to enter the transfer portal since coach Ben Howland was fired March 17, following Javian Davis, Camryn Carter, Derek Fountain and D.J. Jeffries.
Of the Bulldogs’ 2021-22 freshman class, only forward KeShawn Murphy remains on the team.
