The transfer portal continues to be a utilized resource for Mississippi State men’s basketball this offseason.
After securing their frontcourt with impact additions Garrison Brooks and D.J. Jeffries, the Bulldogs provided some much-needed depth to their backcourt after landing a commit from North Carolina State transfer point guard Shakeel Moore Monday afternoon.
“Let’s get to work in Starkville,” Moore posted his Twitter account Monday.
Moore reportedly had interest from Creighton and Western Kentucky as well, according to 247Sports. A 6-foot-1, 185-pound guard, Moore averaged 6.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 44 percent from the field and 34 percent from beyond the arc in his freshman season.
The Greensboro, North Carolina native was a four-star recruit according to 247Sports and was the 24th best point guard prospect and fourth best player from North Carolina.
A recent report of MSU shooting guard D.J. Stewart deciding to stay in the NBA draft and not return to MSU likely weighed in on Moore’s decision, who will likely slide into the projected starting five along with Iverson Molinar, Brooks, Jeffries and Tolu Smith.
With Stewart’s departure, MSU has one scholarship remaining for next season and will likely try to add another guard. The Bulldogs have now made three additions from the transfer portal while adding true freshmen signees KeyShawn Murphy, Alden Applewhite and Camryn Carter.
