The Welty Gala was a triumph. Beyond the chance to meet and share ideas and opinions with a wide variety of people, to eat wonderful and tasty food, we heard a remarkable “by one’s own bootstraps” story from a drug dealer who became an upper-middle-class phenomenon—Chef Jeff. The W’s own Jazz Ensemble warmed our salads. It was a splendid night. The Gala brought home to me how much has changed since the 1930s. Today, women have vastly greater choices and opportunities. Eudora Welty would be proud.
This event exemplifies why the people of Columbus support the Trotter Center. Thank you, Columbus.
