It was a small gesture, but one that truly highlighted the kind of compassion and willingness to help that we hope to see in all of our elected officials.
What happened? About a week ago, I received a text informing me that some of my property had been discovered in a vacant home. The person who reached out was Councilman Stephen Jones, who I understand is running for Mayor.
Not only did Stephen take the time to track me down, but he also ensured that my property was safely delivered to a location in town where it could be mailed to me, as I now live in Florida. I wasn’t certain he would follow through with his generous offer, but he did.
In Stephen Jones, I see the heart of a true public servant. This is the kind of quality that great leaders are made of—think of figures like George Washington or Martin Luther King Jr., both of whom exemplified honorable service in many ways.
Although I no longer live in Columbus, having grown up there, I can confidently say that if I did, I would not hesitate to vote for Stephen Jones. His above-and-beyond act of courtesy was appreciated by me, and I believe he would bring the same dedication to serving the good people of Columbus as Mayor.
