COLUMBUS — Dewey Monaghan, 87, died Sept. 13, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice-Tupelo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home with Don McCain, Wesley Pepper and Dudley Nash officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Mr. Monaghan was born June 8, 1930, to the late Shelby and Ruby Laney Monaghan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was previously employed with Johnson Motors and owned a car lot and gas station. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Carolyn Wiggington, Patsy Camp, Frances Hester and Joyce Chism. He is survived by his wife, Eva Grace Monaghan of Amory; sons, Mike Monaghan, Rick Monaghan and Butch Monaghan, all of Gainesville, Florida; step-children, Amy Lemly of Olive Branch, Beth Kent of Hatley and Tony Jones of Seymore, Tennessee; sisters, Peggy Best of Amory, Linda Presley and Mary Bright, both of Amory; five grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
