A woman who allegedly assaulted an elderly woman last month has been arrested, according to Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry.
Lailaka Lyons, 35, was arrested April 27 and charged with assault on a vulnerable adult and petit larceny.
Lyons allegedly approached a 93-year-old woman who was working in her yard in the 300 block of Airline Road and offered to help her, Daughtry said. She asked the victim if she could go inside and use the bathroom and, once inside, pushed the victim down and stole a wireless phone, a cellphone and about $100 in cash.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Daughtry said.
Lyons is in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
In a separate case, Korey Devonta Gibbs, 36, was arrested May 4 and charged with possession of cocaine, fleeing and eluding an officer and possession of a weapon by a felon, Daughtry said.
“Officers attempted to make a traffic stop and he took off at a high rate of speed,” Daughtry said. “He crashed the vehicle on Martin Street and there was a brief foot pursuit.”
Gibbs complained of chest pain and was released on an affidavit and taken to the hospital, to be arrested at a later date, Daughtry said. A warrant was issued for his arrest after he was released from the hospital and he was arrested May 4.
Gibbs is still in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
Finally, Braylin Christopher Edinburgh, 23, was arrested May 1 and charged with intimidating a witness after threatening the victim via social media.
Edinburgh is still in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
