Two men were taken to the hospital following a Tuesday evening shooting.
Officers arrived at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle at about 9:46 p.m. in reference to the victims, who suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, a Columbus Police Department press release said.
Both males, aged 18 and 19, have been treated and released from the hospital.
Bryan Moore, public information officer for CPD, said details on the shooting are scarce. Initially, both victims told investigators they were shot at from another vehicle while the pair was driving along Highway 82, though Moore said their stories “kept changing.”
“So we don’t know exactly,” Moore told The Dispatch on Wednesday. “There was no evidence to back their story up.”
Moore said neither victim cooperated during questioning at the hospital, and investigators do not know where the shooting occurred or if anyone else may be involved.
While he “has no idea” what the next steps in the investigation are, Moore said investigators are hopeful bystanders will come forward.
“Hopefully we get some calls (from) some people who heard something in some area, and we’ll go investigate that area,” he said. “… We have to work backwards.”
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is asked to call CPD at (662) 244-3500 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
