A call from an alert citizen led to two arrests in Columbus after an alleged Thursday morning burglary and vehicle pursuit.
Columbus Police Department arrested 23-year-old Darius Immani Frierson and 27-year-old Stacy Ryan Hilario on suspicion of burglary of a dwelling, according to a CPD media release.
Authorities responded to the incident about 10:46 a.m. at Canterbury apartments after a witness reported seeing two men running out of an apartment with televisions. The witness told police the suspects were leaving in a white Ford truck and gave the truck’s tag number and direction to officers.
A police officer located the truck near 11th Street North and Fourth Avenue North. The officer attempted to pull the truck over, but the suspects refused to yield, authorities said.
The release stated that the driver continued on Military Road until turning onto Park Circle and reaching a dead end. One suspect attempted to flee into the woods, but was caught by officers.
CPD posted pictures of the recovered items on its Twitter feed. They included two TVs, a PlayStation 4 video game console and games, hats, jewelry and shoes. CPD returned the items to the apartment.
Frierson was also charged with felony escape after he allegedly attempted to escape custody at the police department. His bond was set at $100,000. Hilario’s bond was set at $15,000.
CPD Interim Chief Fred Shelton said he was grateful for the citizen who alerted the department of the incident.
“It’s always great when citizens help us out,” Shelton said. “But we want to remind citizens to never put yourself in harm’s way. The fact that they did get us a description and call us and give us information as we were searching for the suspects was very helpful.”
