STARKVILLE – Four Starkville men are in custody following a Saturday shooting in the Cotton District that left one person injured.
Dewaylon Brooks, 23, Jordyn Barrett, 21, Anthony Davis, 19 and Juantel Hughes Jr., 19, are each charged with one count of attempted murder. Brooks and Davis were arrested Monday while Hughes and Barrett were arrested Sunday.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at about 11:39 p.m. outside on Maxwell Street near Lummus Drive, according to a Starkville Police Department press release. The wounded victim was flown out of the area for medical treatment. The press release did not specify how many gunshot wounds the victim sustained.
The victim was released from the hospital as of Monday, SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady told The Dispatch.
The individuals involved knew each other prior to the shooting, the press release said. All four suspects are being held at the Oktibbeha County Jail. As of Monday afternoon, bond had not been set.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is asked to contact SPD at (662) 323-4131, Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151 or submit an anonymous tip through the SPD website.
