The Columbus-Lowndes Visitors Bureau has canceled its Traditions, Tastes and Tunes event and Sandfield Cemetery flag placement due to weather.
Frances Glenn, CVB tourism director, said the decision came down to the rainfall the area received Thursday and additional rainfall expected during the event time today.
“With so much rain expected and rain predicted at the actual time of the event, it just didn’t make sense for us to try to move forward,” Glenn said. “Of course, we’re disappointed because we were looking forward to it.”
The Traditions, Tastes and Tunes event was scheduled for 4-7 p.m. at the Riverwalk Stage. The event was going to feature live music from the Artistik Band, food trucks and a flyover by Columbus Air Force Base.
Glenn said there are no plans to reschedule the event, but she hopes to bring it back in 2027.
The scheduled flag placement at Sandfield Cemetery this morning, planned in conjunction with the local posts of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, was also canceled due to weather.
Other events, including the Friday dedication of a new marble marker at 11 a.m. outside the Lowndes County Courthouse, and the flag placement and ceremony at Friendship Cemetery beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, are still moving forward in spite of weather projections, Glenn said.
“We’ll have a tent (at the marker dedication), and we’ll be on concrete, so we don’t have to worry (as much),” Glenn said.
