Another Columbus teenager has been charged in connection to a shooting that struck a school bus Nov. 18 on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Enry Meadows, 18, of Columbus, was arrested Monday and faces an aggravated assault charge, according to Columbus Police Department Public Information Officer Bryan Moore.
Martez Meeks, 18, of Columbus, turned himself in to police Nov. 22 and was charged with 11 counts of aggravated assault after accidentally shooting the Columbus Municipal School District bus containing 10 children and a bus driver.
Meadows and Meeks were shot at by occupants of a dark-colored Dodge Charger driving north on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive while at a residence on the street’s 1500 block across from the Columbus Housing Authority. Meadows and Meeks returned fire, hitting the right front tire of the bus.
Meadows was injured during the shooting and was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle to recover. A warrant for his arrest was signed in November, and his arrest was made Monday at the intersection of 18th Street North and Eighth Avenue North, Moore said.
Moore told The Dispatch he did not believe there would be any further arrests made in connection to the shooting.
“I don’t think they are still investigating the incident,” Moore said. “I think they are going to actually submit it to grand jury, and no more arrests will be made in this incident.”
Meadows and Meeks were previously arrested on weapon possession charges following a shooting in July at the 1600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Both were charged with possessing a firearm while out on a felony bond. Meeks was charged with two counts of possession of a stolen firearm.
At the time of his July arrest, Meadows was on bond following a murder charge for the November 2023 death of Labronze Moore, 17, at the victim’s residence on North McCrary Road in Columbus. Meeks was indicted by a grand jury on two aggravated assault charges in Lowndes County.
