A Columbus man allegedly went on a robbery spree and then led police on a chase through north Columbus Saturday night before finally being arrested for multiple felonies.
Julian Herron, 17, has been charged with five counts of armed robbery, along with possession of a controlled substance, felony eluding and felony assault on a police officer, said Fred Shelton, chief of Columbus Police Department. Shelton added he was also charged with having no driver’s license, which is a misdemeanor. Herron will be charged as an adult.
Shelton said Herron went on a “robbery spree” Saturday night, taking money and credit cards from three people at a hotel in south Columbus before robbing another individual at a separate store and committing a final robbery at an inn on Military Road.
“We were able to get a vehicle description of him and (find the vehicle),” Shelton said. “When we tried to arrest him, that’s when he took off.”
Shelton said police chased Herron from Military Road to 14th Avenue North. The chase lasted about 30 minutes, and at one point, Herron allegedly attempted to run over an officer who had gotten out of his vehicle.
Herron finally got out of the vehicle at the intersection of Eighth Street and 11th Avenue North and attempted to flee on foot, Shelton said. At that point, officers caught and arrested him.
Shelton said Herron was already out on bond for previous felony charges.
Herron is currently in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting bond to be set.
