STARKVILLE — A Starkville man and his wife were arrested on Sunday in connection to a stabbing that occurred Saturday night at Chandler Park Apartments.
William “Gene” Roberts, 54, was taken into custody near his home on Ruger Road in Oktibbeha County by the Starkville Police Department on Sunday and was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly stabbing a man at the apartment complex on Reed Road.
His wife, Leslie Roberts, 55, was arrested at about 4 a.m. Sunday and was charged with accessory after the fact. SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady did not disclose her involvement with the crime.
Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at about 8:50 p.m. Saturday, according to a press release from SPD. One man was injured and was airlifted for treatment. His condition has not been released.
The stabbing followed an argument between Roberts and the victim. Roberts fled the scene before officers arrived. He was apprehended at about noon on Sunday near his home.
Lovelady said only one victim was injured during the stabbing but could not confirm if other parties were involved in the altercation.
“No one else was injured during the incident,” Lovelady said in a text message to The Dispatch. “We’re not releasing any more details at this point as this is an active investigation.”
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with further information is asked to contact Starkville police at (662) 323-4131 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
