An alleged aggravated domestic assault may go to grand jury before charges can be determined, Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch.
Deputies responded at about 5 p.m. Friday to a residence at Vann Court, where they found a 37-year-old stabbing victim in critical condition. The victim was airlifted to a Tupelo hospital for treatment.
Deputies arrested a 20-year-old suspect, stepchild to the victim, at the scene, but he was released with no charges the same day after the investigation indicated the victim may have also been the primary aggressor.
“We’ve still got to talk to (the victim), and we haven’t been able to do that yet. He’s still being treated,” Hawkins said. “When we’re able to talk to him and get his side of the story, then we’ll know all the facts. But from witnesses … that were there, it looks like he was the primary aggressor.”
Hawkins said the case will be presented to a grand jury to determine whether the victim faces any charges.
