The sheriff’s race continues to be the big-money race in Lowndes County, with incumbent Republican Eddie Hawkins raising $13,298 over the reporting period, compared to $3,500 raised by his opponent, Democrat Willie Jones.
About $10,900 of Hawkins’ contributions were itemized. Donors include Gregory C. Rader, who gave $3,000, while Hal M. McClanahan gave $2,000; Johnson Carpet Center gave $1,000; Appliances Plus LLC gave $600; Express Mart of Columbus, Chris Smith, Denise Good, Thomas M. Howard, Southern Forest Timber Company LLC and PTS Solutions each gave $500; Bill Russell gave $300; and Mrs. Billy M. Swedenburg, David Beard, McBride Inc. and Mark Smith each gave $250.
Hawkins reported spending $15,979 over the reporting period and $45,346 overall. He has $22,930 on hand.
Jones reported $3,500 in fundraising over the reporting period, all of which was non-itemized. He reported $3,467 in spending, and $112 in cash on hand.
He reported raising a total of $9,760.
This round of campaign finance reports were due Tuesday and cover the period of July 1 to Sept. 30. Candidates are required to itemize any donation or expenditure greater than $200.
The general election is Nov. 7.
District 5 supervisor
Incumbent Democrat Leroy Brooks reported raising $4,250 over the reporting period.
Donors include himself, Jimmy Graham, Adam Holmes, Chris Herring, Gilbert Spencer, and Fred Hall for $500 apiece; Admant Investment for $250; and James Samuel, Sue Fairbank, Raymond Overstreet, George Hazard, Columbus Dental Clinic and Columbus Fence for $200 apiece.
Brooks reported spending $2,615. He reports total fundraising of $4,250 and a cash balance of $1,635.
Independent challenger Tiffany Turner reported $4,825 in contributions, of which $4,125 was itemized. Donors include her husband, Marty Turner, who gave $1,025; Dennis Erby, who gave $925; Linder Erby, who gave $925; and Tiffany Turner herself, who self-funded by $750.
Turner reported spending $4,564. She reports total fundraising of $4,825 and has $261 in cash on hand.
District 1 supervisor
Republican Matt Furnari reported no fundraising. He reported $1,460 in spending during the reporting period, and a cash-on-hand balance of negative-$7,123.
Democrat Tommy Lee Kidd reported self-funding to the tune of $1,800. He reported spending $1,270, and a cash balance of $530. He reports total fundraising of $1,800.
District 3 supervisor
Republican Andy Williamson reported raising $2,064, all of which was self-funded. He reported spending the same amount, and having no cash on hand. He reports a total of $2,064 in contributions.
Independent Christopher Moore reported no fundraising and $3,161 in expenditures. He reports no cash on hand.
Chancery clerk
Incumbent Republican Cindy Goode reported $3,500 in contributions during the reporting period, of which $3,300 was itemized. Donors include $2,200 is self-funding and Gawyn Mitchell, who gave $1,100.
She reported spending $3,992. Goode reported total fundraising of $4,778, with $786 in cash on hand.
Democrat challenger Andre Roberts did not file a report by the deadline.
Coroner
Incumbent Republican Greg Merchant reported $400 of non-itemized contributions during the reporting period. He reported spending $90. He reports raising a total of $1,200, with no cash on hand.
Democrat challenger Leonard Williams Jr. did not file a report by the deadline.
