STARKVILLE — A Starkville man was sentenced Tuesday to three years in prison for possession and transfer of a “Glock switch,” a device that converts a semi-automatic handgun to fully automatic.
Kylen Ingram, 22, also known as “KTM Prime,” previously pleaded guilty in the Northern District Court of Mississippi. U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock sentenced Ingram to three years in prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Hudson was remanded into the custody of U.S. marshals following the sentencing.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Starkville Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
Under federal law, a firearm with a machine gun conversion device is considered a machine gun.
Ingram is the second Starkville man sentenced in less than a week for possession and sale of a “Glock switch,” with Austin Hudson getting a five year federal sentence Thursday on the same charge. Two others in Columbus received federal sentences of multiple years for possession of a machine gun in February.
SPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Brandon Lovelady said in a statement that the risks posed by the conversion devices go beyond a higher rate of fire.
“The rapid fire provided by Glock switches makes it more difficult to aim accurately, increasing the chance of stray bullets striking bystanders, homes, or vehicles,” he said. “(SPD) will continue working tirelessly with our federal counterparts to investigate these types of crimes and to keep our community safe.”
