OXFORD – A Starkville man was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison for possession and transfer of a “Glock switch,” a device that converts a semi-automatic handgun to fully automatic.
Austin Hudson, 23, also known as “Mop Sossa,” previously pleaded guilty in the Northern District Court of Mississippi. U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills sentenced Hudson to five years in prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Hudson was remanded into the custody of U.S. marshals following the sentencing.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Starkville Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
Hudson has been arrested multiple times over the past four years. He was arrested in March 2024 following the shooting death of Jequarius M. Spencer and charged with first-degree murder. Sixteenth Circuit District Attorney Scott Colom told The Dispatch on Friday the case is set to go before a grand jury later this month.
Hudson was also arrested along with three others in May 2023 in connection to a shooting outside the Sprint Mart at Highway 182 and Old Mayhew Road. The shooting involved Glock pistols modified for automatic firing and resulted in two minor injuries and minor property damage.
Hudson was charged with aggravated assault in the May 2023 shooting. That case has been continued to April 10 in Oktibbeha County Circuit Court.
