LAFAYETTE COUNTY – A Columbus Municipal School District school safety officer was arrested Monday on drug distribution charges by the U.S. Marshals Office.
Bryan Holliness, 39, the school safety officer for Cook Elementary School, was arrested in Lafayette County, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi Scott Leary told The Dispatch.
Leary declined to comment further on the arrest and additional details of the office’s investigation.
“From our position, it would be premature for us to comment this early on in an investigation,” Leary said.
In a press release sent to The Dispatch on Wednesday, the district confirmed Holliness’ arrest. The district is conducting its own investigation in accordance with procedures outlined in its employee handbook.
“The Columbus Municipal School District remains committed to transparency and accountability,” Superintendent Craig Chapman said in the press release. “We hold our employees to the highest standards, both inside and outside the district, and we will continue to uphold these expectations.”
