WEST POINT – Police are investigating after a man’s body was discovered early Saturday morning outside of an urgent care clinic in West Point.
Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter identified the man as Richard Stewart, 57, of West Point.
Detective Marvin Hughes told The Dispatch the body was discovered by passersby in front of the Baptist Urgent Care on Highway 45.
“They observed an individual, a white male, who was, or had been at one point bleeding rather profusely,” Hughes said.
Officers responded to the scene at about 5:44 a.m. and attempted to revive Stewart. They were unsuccessful, and Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene. Hughes said the department is investigating the case and is unable to share a cause of death at this time.
Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact West Point Police Department at (662) 494-1244, call 911 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
